Fredericia – The Magazine table by Jens Risom
Feeling so lucky to share we are welcoming a new piece of furniture to our home, the Magazine Table designed by Jens Risom for Fredericia. This side table has stole our hearts and will look amazing in our new home.
Since its foundation in 1911, the family-owned furniture company Fredericia has built up a strong tradition of beautiful craftsmanship and innovative design, developed in close collaboration with a circle of internationally recognized designers.
I really admire Fredericia as a brand and the iconic designs they’ve come out with over te years, with the Spanisch Chair in particular. I own two special J39 chairs designed by Mogensen which I absolutely love.
Jens Rison for Fredericia
The Magazine Table was designed in 1949 by Jens Rison. Jens Risom was part of the golden generation of designers during the Danish Modernism movement. Risom introduced Scandinavian design to America and went on to influence the global design scene. Jens Risom joins Fredericia’s stable of talented designers together with his former classmates, Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen, whose work laid the foundation for Fredericia.
The Magazine Table
I was kindly given the Magazine Table in black lacquered oak. To me, this side table is the delicate balance between elegance and making a statement in your interior. It’s perfect for displaying your favorite magazines and highlighting that one special vase or bowl. But besides that, it’s practical and fits in with a lot of interiors. Not only I adore this design; my parents have also fallen in love with it and they probably wouldn’t mind me leaving it when we finally move out (not likely to happen, if you’re reading this, sorry mom). Because it’s such a perfect fit for their interior, I decided to photograph it in their home as well.
Styling the magazine table
As you can see, I gave it a bit of my flair using the Wassily Chair, the IC Flos floor lamp (yes, we have the same one!) and some of my mothers favorite styling items. The monkey actually belonged to my grandparents and they used to style it the same way, dangling on a lamp.
I already styled the side table at our new home, as you might have seen on Instagram (see the pictures below). Like I said, I can’t wait to give it a more permanent place in our own living room in the new year! But for now I can enjoy it for another three weeks in my parents place, how do you like it? Curious to hear what you think of their home!
Did you get a chance to read my previous blog? I visited artist Tessa de Rijk in her beautiful Amsterdam atelier for my series ‘Visiting the artist‘. She creates beautiful art pieces, which match perfect with the Magazine Table!
Have a good evening and thanks for stopping by!
